Baby Wearing & How the Izmi Carrier is a lifesaver

When I was pregnant there were a lot of things I knew I really wanted for when Madison eventually arrived and although there has been some debate on baby wearing in the past, I definitely knew that it was something I wanted to do. To be honest, even though I have heard a lot of controversy towards baby wearing online all of the Mummies I know do carry their babies in either a carrier or sling and so for me it was a bit of a no-brainer when it came time for me buying things for my little squishy. Fortunately for me there wasn’t much research needing to be done though as I was very kindly gifted one for review by Cheeky Rascals. The Izmi Baby Carrier.

Izmi was a brand that I’d never heard of before but upon first inspection after having received my carrier I was pretty happy with it. Having not done a lot of research I was going in pretty blind but on first test (whilst pregnant mind, not the easiest of things with a bump) the carrier was extremely comfy and pretty easy to put on myself. Of course I knew it would be a bit different with a tiny baby in it and not a stuffed teddy but first impressions are always good and I was quite exited to get my tiny newborn into it!

We first used the Izmi baby carrier when Madison was around 3 or 4 weeks old as to be honest for the first few weeks we’d been a family of three at home having nothing but cuddles for this long before Steve finally went back to work (thank you annual leave). When we had gone out and about it was still a real novelty to pop Maddy into her pram and push her around as proud new parents! It wasn’t actually until a friend of mine who’d also just had a little bubba met us at a Summer BBQ (at our gym of all places) and was wearing her Izmi carrier. Baby wearing had been a big thing for her since having her daughter seven (really long, slow) weeks before Maddy had come along and after using a sling for the first couple, she’d purchased the Izmi carrier as well. I grabbed mine from the car and popped Madison in it straight away and haven’t really looked back since!

One thing my friend mentioned to me before I’d even thought about reviewing the carrier is how lovely as a brand Izmi were. As I mentioned before baby wearing is now a pretty big thing and it can be overwhelming to decide on which carrier to buy for most families but whist Stacey was at one of the Baby Shows, the Izmi team actually let her trade in her pram for the day to trial a carrier. I think this is such an amazing idea and a great way to trial the carrier before you fork out the £70-£80 for it and not that I’ve tried any other brand but she did mention that others were only letting you try theirs on at the stall for a few minutes.

Onto the actual carrier itself now and I have to say I love wearing it. It’s kept in my car now so that it’s always an option when we go out and about and although I don’t wear it around the house (personal preference as Madison is good as gold at home) I do like wearing it when we’re walking around town and things like that! It’s easy to put on even when I’m on my own and with just three clicks Maddy’s in place and good to go! The material the carrier is made from is super soft and comfortable and is sturdy enough to keep bubba in place without being overly chunky and heavy (who needs that when you’re already carrying a wiggling 6 kilos or so?). Izmi’s tag line is “Flexible Carrying” and this baby carrier certainly is. Madison can move about without hurting herself or being uncomfortable, but she’s still safe and secure and I absolutely love that about it. Baby wearing was a scary concept to me at first: “Would I be doing it right?” “What if it’s not comfortable?” “What if baby hates it?” But all in all it’s been a huge success. Madison has 9/10 times fallen asleep whilst she’s been cosied up to my chest and she loves the freedom she has to mover her arms, legs and head around (she’s a very nosy baby).

So far we’ve only used the Izmi baby carrier with Madison facing towards me, but it’s such a versatile piece that through different ages it can be used with baby facing outward, on your back or on your side. Starting at £75 this carrier sits nicely in the middle of the price range for baby wearing and for such a comfortable and easy to use product, as a first time Mum, I don’t really see the need to pay any more for anything else.
