Chances are, you have some sort of skincare routine in place. Maybe you change it based on the season or the way your skin is feeling that week… Or, maybe you adjust it when you find a new product you love or learn more about different solutions that can help with your specific skin type. Whatever the case, having some kind of routine in place is important for healthier skin. If you do, you’re already one step ahead. We all know I love a skincare routine and even swap it out from day to night.
Everyone wants healthier skin, right? Maybe you struggle with oily skin, or maybe it’s dry and itchy. If you’re trying to find ways to improve your routine, you may be limiting your own thinking. Not everything is about the products that we use and you should instead, try focusing on a few daily habits and lifestyle changes you can make to improve your skin’s health.
Not sure where to start? Here’s 4 tips to healthier skin that I LIVE by.
- Wash Your Face – Twice a Day
So many people don’t wash their face as frequently as they should. While washing once a day is good, it’s even better to do it twice a day. That can be especially helpful if you have very oily skin. There is a “sweet spot” you should shoot for when washing your face, and for most people that means doing it twice each day. Less than that, and it can look greasy and you might be more prone to breakouts. Washing too much, however, can dry out your skin. Washing it once in the morning and once at night will effectively keep your skin clean and your pores clear. I like to wash my face after I’ve done a workout too to make sure I remove any sweat or dirt that’s gotten into it when I’ve exercised. I do like to ensure this co-insides with one of my two daily face washes though so I’m not removing too many of my skins natural oils and stripping it too much.
- Use the Right Products
The products you use on your face each day could be major contributors to the overall health of your skin. Make sure you’re looking for products with natural ingredients whenever possible. Or, choose products that are specifically designed to improve the health of your skin.
You can learn more about specific products for skin health at this website, but don’t be afraid to become an avid label reader of anything you’re putting on your skin. Stay away from harsh chemicals, preservatives, and synthetic fragrances. If you notice that a particular product causes any type of irritation, stop using it immediately.
- Eat a Healthy Diet
Eating a balanced diet has countless benefits, but it’s also a good way to improve the health of your skin. Solid skincare starts from the inside out. The best foods for healthy skin include those that are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids. Try to include more of the following in your daily diet:
Additionally, stay away from heavily-processed foods or things with a lot of sugar or salt. These can cause your skin to look dull and may even contribute to breakouts. I am particularly partial to chocolate and am 100% convinced it is the main issue in my skin condition; when I remove it from my diet my skin is so much better!
4. Drink more water
If there’s anything I’ve learnt over the past few years its that upping your water intake has a massively positive effect not only on your digestive system and overall health but also on helping you to have healthier skin. I started making sure I was drinking around 3litres+ of water a day and the health benefits I feel that it’s had on my whole body and skin have been amazing. It’s such a simple step to add into your routine (especially if you have the right bottle) and one that has so many benefits.
Changing your habits and adopting healthier ones doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By putting these four simple habits into practice, you can start to notice positive changes in the way your skin looks and feels very quickly. Thankfully, that can motivate you to try even more healthy habits that will leave you positively glowing!
