The Soothskin device you need for at home IPL

As a woman one the biggest banes of my life is having to shave my legs. As most of you will probably agree, Winter is one of the best seasons because trousers / tights are constantly lived in and the amount of hairy flesh on show is highly minimal. I think not having to shave my legs is one of the little joys in life and so when the warmer weather comes along in Spring / Summer the task of getting a razor to my pins becomes one I seriously hate. For years now I’ve considered other methods to keeping my legs silky smooth but the likes of waxing and laser has either sounded too painful or too expensive. However when I looked into at home IPL devices, I was pleasantly surprised at how affective they seemed to be and for a one off price of a couple of hundred pound the idea became more and more appealing to me. I was then contacted by Smoothskin who offered to send me one of their at home IPL devices to try and it honestly couldn’t have come and a better time. With a 12 week programme to smooth skin it was the perfect time to get started before summer came along.

The SmoothSkin is £349 as a one off purchase and can be used on pretty much any body part you want to rid yourself of hair. I’ve been using mine on my lower legs and underarms for the last 3 months and have been so impressed with the difference I’ve seen i my hair growth.

With the Smooth Skin device you are to use it once a week for 12 weeks before you should then only have to top-up once a month. As I’ve been a serial shaver for half of my life so far, I didn’t quite expect it to be as affective as it was so soon, but from the very first session I noticed a difference and after 3 sessions noticed a great improvement! As far as pain is concerned for me this is pain-free, however on more sensitive areas (such as the bikini line) or where the hair isn’t as clean-shaven before use, you can feel a little nip as each pulse of light is released. Again, to me I don’t really find this painful, more of an annoyance, but I do have quite a high pain threshold.

After shaving my legs and then completing the process only 3 times I started to notice a difference in the hair that was growing back. It was extremely softer than when I was shaving and also was growing back at a much slower rate. Whereas before I’d usually have to shave my legs every day or so, the hair was growing back so fine and soft that I was able to start going almost a week without shaving. By the time my 12 week programme was up there was barely any re-growth within the weeks. Now as I’ve completed the 12 sessions my leg hair takes a good two weeks to start making an appearance again and to be honest with you I don’t think I’ll ever be going back to my ways BSS (before Smoothskin) ever again.

I know a Smoothskin Gold is a pretty hefty investment but when you think about the overall costs that waxing or even salon IPL could cost, for smooth legs and minimal effort, I genuinely think that the price is a great deal. I’ve used mine on my legs and arm pits already and can soon see myself using this all over my body to be honest!

Have you ever tried a Smoothskin Gold or tried at home IPL? What were your thoughts?

Shaving & waxing gets so tedious so I love the idea of this.
This sounds brilliant too. Definitely going to look into it!

I’m desperate to try an IPL system you can use at home like this! My hair seems to grow back pretty quickly (TMI) and I feel like something like this would make a huge difference. Great review! Megan x
