We’re Konfidence Swimologists! Learning to swim with Konfidence

As some of you may well know, Madison and I are avid swimmers. Having swam pretty much every day in my pregnancy and having been a big swimmer for most of my life, teaching Madison to swim has been one of the most important things on my baby ‘to-do’ list. As soon as her umbilical cord had dried up and healed properly at 4 weeks old Steve and I took her swimming for the first time and have since then taken her at least once a week. And I’m now really excited to tell you all that Maddy and I are Konfidence Swimologists for this year! I can’t wait to take you on our journey of Madison learning to swim.

Konfidence is one of the UKs leading swim brands and with swimming being a major life skill, they’re proud advocates of getting your baby learning to swim as early as possible. With Madison, it’s something her dad and I were both 100% certain about when we found out I was pregnant and now that she’s 8 months old (I still can’t get over how old she is now) I’m so glad that we took her from such a young age.

Memories of me learning to swim are some of the fondest memories I have of my childhood and even though my Mum was never a confident swimmer, I do remember that my Dad always made sure my sister and I were in the water, swimming around. It’s memories like those that have made me love swimming so much and it’s memories like those that make Maddy learning to swim so much more special for me; I love passing down my favourite things to Madison in the hope that she’ll love them too.

I feel that Madison is already such a confident swimmer at the age of 8 months and I definitely have high hopes of her being one of those incredible 16 month old babies confidently swimming on their own that you see in videos on Facebook. Although we’ve never taken her to swimming lessons so far, we encourage her as much as we can each time we go. It’s the most special time we have together as a family each week and watching how much she loves it just makes it all worth while. She loves splashing, being dunked under and doesn’t care one bit with getting water all over her face (something we have always encouraged so she doesn’t scream bloody murder when it comes to hair washing time). She is 100% a water baby!

Whether it’s kicking her legs faster to get towards her new neoprene fun ball from Konfidence, splashing about at her Mummy or Daddy or even swimming underwater (for the brief few seconds that we let her go) on her own and coming up to the surface like an absolute pro, there’s no mistaking the fact that Madison absolutely adores being in the water. I can’t wait to take Madison to her swimming lessons with Aqua Tikes in a few weeks (our term starts in June) and see how much she flourishes in the lessons. We took her to a baby swim session whilst we were out in Cyprus and she loved it, so I’m really hoping she loves these lessons just as much back in the comfort of our own pool at the gym.

I want to say a massive thank you to Konfidence for choosing Madison and I as their swimologists for 2018, and for gifting us a term of swimming lessons at our local pool along with lots of fun bits for learning to swim. Check back to the blog soon for an update on how our lessons are going!

It’s so important that kids learn how to swim when they are younger. She looks like she is having a ball!

I can’t wait for my faj to be fixed so I can take Freddie swimming, I didn’t have any confidence with swimming when I was a kid so it’s really important for me to make sure Freddie has confidence and enjoys it xx
