For the past four months I’ve been in such a little love bubble. My darling daughter is the most incredible little human in the world and I am absolutely smitten with her – and so is everyone else in my family! And I’m not even sorry for the soppiness that’s about to spew out of me because I’m bloody well proud of the little human I’ve created. I wasn’t really sure whether I wanted to do frequent updates on the blog on how she’s progressing (and I definitely didn’t want to write monthly ones) but since she’s changing so much every single day and I shared regular pregnancy updates with you all, I thought it was about time I let you in on how she’s growing and share with you her 4 month update.
At 4 months old Madison is already so alert; she needs constantly entertaining, smiles at almost everything and has the most precious giggle ever (not that Mummy’s anywhere near as funny as Daddy!!). She can roll over from her front to her back (although I think I got too excited and got her to do it too much initially and now she just won’t play ball) and is sooo very nearly rolling over from her back to front but can’t quite get those chunky little thighs over! She’s weighing loads and is following the 75th percentile for her growth (which I’m told is fantastic) but doesn’t look as chubby as she should be and absolutely adores her food – definitely follows after Mummy and Daddy there! Milk is her favourite and as she guzzles 9oz every feed time now (around 4/5 times a day) we’re pretty sure we’ll be starting to wean her onto solids in the next few months. Over the last month especially she’s just come on leaps and bounds; all of sudden she’s reaching out, grabbing things and shaking them around and is just far more interested in everything that’s going on.
She’s had a bit of a blip with her sleeping over the past week as she’s got bronchiolitis bless her which has really put her appetite out of whack but besides that she is a bloomin’ gorgeous sleeper. Skip to the next paragraph right now if you have a fussy / non-sleeper because Madison usually sleeps around 11 hours a night. I’m probably going to jinx this now but since she was about 4 weeks old she’s slept from around 9.30pm to 8.30am every night. I’m not even really that upset that she’s not sleeping well at the moment because she’s usually so so good and I know it’s only because she’s so poorly. She’s also got two little teeth coming through and although she grizzles occasionally about them, she’s a pretty happy baby even with both things going on.
I know people say you shouldn’t bother getting your baby into a routine until they’re around 6 or so months old but we started a routine at around the end of the second week. Of course, Madison had her own ideas for a while but by the end of the third or fourth week we were set and she was sleeping all the way through (if only occasionally waking once for a bit more of the white stuff). We’re now still in that routine even though she’s poorly as we don’t want to change it on our end too much and it’s working really well; at 7.30pm it’s time for a bath and then we settle with a film and a bottle as she falls asleep. At the moment that’s between 10-11pm but we know soon it should go back to normal (hopefully) when she’s back to her regular milk guzzling self. We don’t quite know what we’ve done to deserve such a content bubba but with some hard work and routine on our side, we’ve got a pretty good thing going!
I’ve adored spending the last four months with her and as I now start to think about starting to get more work done throughout the week and we think about childcare, I’m getting really sad about leaving my best friend and not spending every day with her. Fortunately I have another 3 months with her before I have to properly separate myself from her 2/3 days a week though! It’s been amazing watching her grow and learn and I can’t wait for our next steps together!
