4 Beauty Products That Every New Mum Needs

Having had a baby recently it’s been a bit of a struggle to find the time to sit and get a full face of makeup on on a daily basis. I mean to be honest, unless she miraculously has a nap whilst I’m getting ready (which very rarely happens) I don’t really ever get a chance to put more than a bit of moisturiser on. As that’s the case though and most days I do want to get out of the house and save my sanity a little (although I don’t quite know how sensory classes and nursery rhymes help my sanity) I’ve decided to let you know about my 4 ride or die beauty products that get me through the day to day of being a new mum.

Now, these might seem a bit basic but when you’re a new mum basic is all you really have time for. I’m sure as Madison gets older that will change slightly as she can start entertaining herself a little more or do more than just lie on her back when I put her down, but for now a slick of concealer is usually all I can really manage unless my Mum is home to help out whilst I get ready.

For that reason, my number 1 beauty product for a new mum is concealer and specifically for me, the Benefit Boi-ing Brightening concealer (formerly known as Erase Paste). This concealer is one I’ve spoken about many times on the blog and is one that I keep coming back to time and time again and as in the first few weeks of having a newborn, sleep is a precious thing this concealer does wonders with covering up those dark under eyes! Don’t get me wrong, Maddy does sleep through the night now so my eye bags aren’t as bad as they once were but a little brightening concealer always helps!

Product number 2 is a lip balm. This Balmkind lip balm has been perfect for keeping with me on the go and for next to bed at night for just making sure my lips are nice and moisturised. There’s nothing that I hate more than dry lips and after all of the gas and air during Madison’s birth lip balm really was needed by the bucket full. Lip balm is just an essential for most people I think but as a new mum I’ve been reaching for mine even more so and especially now Autumn is turning into Winter and the days are much colder; the last thing I need to be worrying about is my dry lips when I have a bubba to look after.

On the same kind of note a the lip balm a hand cream is one of the most precious things ever to me now that I’ve had a baby. I don’t think I’ve ever washed my hands or doused them in anti-bac as much as I have since having Madison; being germ free is key right now and because of that my hands have become increasingly dry. Dryer than the Sahara desert to the point of them being sore and almost red raw and hand cream has been my saviour. I have so many different ones dotted around the house and in my changing bag just to make sure that I always have one to hand (ha ha). My favourites recently have been the Body Shop’s Hemp hand cream (because as horrible it smells it really does work well to re-moisturise my dry skin),  the Shea hand cream from L’Occitane and Soap and Glory’s Hand Food.

And last but by no means least I would be lost as a new mum without hair bands. I love having my hair loose but with a baby in tow it’s just so unnecessary to have it down (I can totally appreciate the ‘mum hairstyle’ now a lot more and have been toying with the idea of cutting it shorter). Hair bands although not necessarily your typical ‘beauty’ product are essential for me to get anything done without having half of my hair pulled out. Although Maddy hasn’t quite got the hang of holding onto toys and rattles just yet she sure as hell does know how to grip hold of my hair and boy, does she not want to let go once she’s got it in her grasp! Having my hair up is just part of my daily life though and although I’ve not yet perfected the ‘mum bun’ it’s become my go-to hairstyle and I feel lost without a hair tie nowadays!

Have you got any beauty essentials for new mum’s at all? I’d love to know what were your go-to products for those first few months with a new born!

Haha I am also not a fan of the Hemp Hand Protector scent, but the job it does is worth it! I have still not tried the Benefit Concealer!

Hand Food has been my go-to, but I’m definitely going to try some of these products you’ve recommended. Your recommendations for during pregmancy were spot on! I’m still loving that Clarins cooling lotion! xx

The lip balm sounds so good, always on the hunt for a good lip product esp at this time of year.
