YSL First Impressions; Touche Eclat Blur Primer, Fusion Ink Foundation & Babydoll Mascara

So if you can’t already tell from the title of this blog post, recently I was a little naughty and had a bit of a splurge on some beautiful YSL products. After purchasing the coveted Touche Éclat Highlighter / Concealer at the airport on my way to Scotland around about 2 years ago, I’ve always wanted to try more beauty products from the brand. Finally, I managed to get my hands on a couple of products and I thought that today would be a great opportunity to tell you my first impressions. Not needing anymore foundations than the six I already have, obviously the first thing I wanted to try was a foundation. I’ve heard some pretty great things about the Touche Éclat Foundation, but unfortunately when I purchased these, my shade wasn’t in stock and so I went for the next best thing because I’m the most impatient person you’ll probably ever meet.

The YSL Fusion Foundation comes in a gorgeous rectangular bottle with black edging around the frosted glass and a gold lid that boasts the YSL logo – of course, being YSL, the packaging is absolutely stunning and to be honest whether the product became a favourite of mine or not, it would always have been one that I displayed on the top of my makeup table. The foundation is easy to apply with a wand that is attached to the lid; not something I would have thought at first would be ideal, but honestly it’s now one of my favourite foundation applicators. I find that I use so much less product than I would if I was using a pump or (god forbid) pouring it onto the back of my hand. It can be quite time consuming, applying the foundation in little dabs all over my face to begin with, but it makes the application so much quicker as I only have to blend with my Beauty Blender to get a really gorgeous even finish. The foundation itself is just beautiful. I don’t think there’s really any other word to describe it with really. It’s got such a lovely coverage, doesn’t cake up and just looks pretty damn flawless on my skin, even if I do say so myself. It feels so velvety and nice on my skin too, not too dewy and not too matte, just a perfect mixture of the two and is hands down the best foundation I think I’ve ever tried. It has a great longevity and I haven’t found it to cake on my skin at all; it’s basically just flawless from the moment I put it on, to the moment I take it off and that my friends, means that this will now be re-purchased time and time again!

Up next is the Touche Éclat Blur Primer; a bit of a ‘spur of the moment’ purchase as I was in need of a new primer and again, had heard such great things about this YSL one, so whilst I was on the website I added it to my basket too. Firstly, it’s bloomin’ stunning: the packaging, the shape of the bottle, the product itself – hello it’s got gold glitter in it?! What more could you want from a product? Oh, and it’s an amazing primer too? It glides effortless over my skin and gives me the smoothest complexion ever. It doesn’t feel quite as hardcore as my Benefit Porefessional Primer, however I have to say that this has definitely pushed its way to the top of my ‘everyday’ primers list as it just makes my skin feel so silky and smooth. As with the Fusion Ink foundation, it had a really gorgeous velvety soft touch to it and it just makes me feel like I’ve been airbrushed. This and the Fusion Ink foundation in combination with each other has been such a dream to wear and I’ve been reaching for them both over everything else in my collection recently – I would definitely recommend!

Lastly I also picked up the YSL Babydoll Mascara. Now, I’ve had my eyes on this for a while and have almost bought it a couple of times when I’ve been in an airport or it’s been in those fabulous Boxing Day / Black Friday sales, but somethings kept me buying it time and time again for some reason. This time however, since I was having a bit of a splurge anyway, I thought I’d treat myself and see if it was as good as the hype it had been given by the reviews that I’d read. Let’s just simply say that it does. This mascara has quickly become a new favourite of mine and I know I say that a lot about new mascaras that I try, but there’s usually only ever one or two that I go back to time and time again. My Clarins Supra Volume has still got the number one spot in my heart, but since I’m currently all out of that, this one has definitely made it’s way to the top of the pecking order. The plastic wand is slightly curved and has lots of little bristles on it that make this mascara cling to every single lash and that just means that I get the fullest coverage that I can out of it. The formula is quite thin too compared to others that I’ve tried and it doesn’t clump at all on any of my lashes (including those pesky bottom ones). Even though I don’t make a habit of curling my lashes as they have quite a nice natural curl to them (sometimes), this mascara seems to take on a really lovely curl without any effort and it manages to stay all day. My lashes look so much longer and fuller and all around in your face when I wear this product and I just love the effect that it has on them. I’m the kind of girl that doesn’t feel right without mascara on and the Babydoll mascara makes me feel so good!
