Makeup for the Perfect Selfie; Rimmel London #Insta Collection Review

Makeup is an art and like most other beauty bloggers I relish in the thought of sitting down for an hour or two to play around with my makeup and create new looks, but for some moments in life there just isn’t always the time and so being able to do a full face in less than ten minutes is often the mission. I’m a massive fan for products that make my life easier in these situations and have been searching for the past year for the perfect products to make my ‘everyday’ makeup look that much quicker. Especially now that I’m going to be having a baby to look after, makeup isn’t always going to be my number 1 and so timing really is key. Thankfully, Rimmel have me covered though with their newest release; The #Insta selfie collection is the latest from the brand, boasting ‘selfie perfect’ makeup for a quick and easy routine. I’ve been trying the products out for around two weeks now and  thought it was about time I gave you the low-down on what I make of them!

#Insta Fix & Go Prime & Setting Spray

I have to admit that setting sprays have only just entered my day-to-day makeup routine and with the majority of the ones I’ve tried costing around the region of £15+ it was really nice to have this one pop through my letter box. And not only is the Insta Fix & Go a setting spray, but it’s a 2-in-1 and can be used as a priming spray too. With a quick spritz of this fine mist before foundation, your base is covered without wasting time on applying a primer properly and with a quick spritz after, your makeup is good to go for the day. With the weather we’ve been having this spray was definitely put through it’s paces and tested well and I can tell you now that it ain’t half bad! Of course, there’s been a little bit of movement on my chin area as there always in when I’m a sweaty mess and rub at my face, but overall my makeup pretty much stayed in-tact all day long. Something I expect from my more expensive setting sprays, but did not at all expect from a highstreet brand – no matter how fab Rimmel usually are. I’d 100% repurchase this over the more expensive alternatives any day and especially with the gorgeous scent this bad boy has. I’m not sure if this is right or not but to me, this smell amazing and just like fresh cucumber water!

#Insta Duo Ended Contour Sticks

Forget the kits Kim KW has just released, these Duo ended contour sticks from Rimmel are where it’s at! Available in three shades (light, medium and dark) these beauties come with a cream contour and a cream highlight and make contouring SO easy. If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know that I’ve been a huge fan of the Topshop contour wand for some time, but these are just something else. With a quick twist up bullet of colour they are so easy to apply and blend like an absolute dream. I originally went with the light shade and after one or two days of playing around with it decided to move on to medium. I think the colouring is absolutely perfect and they easily give you a believable definition to your contour without looking too grey or orange toned. The highlighting end is great as well, not my absolute favourite for a pop shine, but they do a really great job at brightening in the area and showing the contrast between your contour; I’ve loved blending this in with my beauty blender and then dusting a little of my Becca Champagne Pop over the top for that extra bit of sparkle. Overall I’m a massive fan of these and will definitely be using these for a quickie contour for weeks to come!

#Insta Fix and Matte Powder

Everyone needs a good setting powder and in the heat we’ve been having recently, you need a great one. Introducing the Rimmel Insta Fix and Matte powder, a gorgeous translucent powder which mattefies and sets your makeup in place effortlessly. This is a perfect dupe for the Urban Decay De-Slick powder and at a fraction of the price is one I’ll be turning to for repurchasing in the future. I’ve had no issues with my base looking cakey and have had no problems at all with looking too ‘whited out’ after applying this. It sits really well on top of my makeup and lasts all day to keep the shine at bay and my makeup in place.

Insta Colour Correcting Palette

With bags under my eyes that could put Chanel to shame and with no sign of them improving once I’ve had my little bubba, a colour correcting palette could not have popped through my door at a better time. This mini platte comes with three shades and I have to say to you straight up: I’ve never been this impressed with a colour correcting palette before in my life. The palette boasts a peachy-orange shade, perfect for evening out the skin colour of those bags / dark circles, a green shade which helps battle any red areas and a purple shade which is great for dullness in the skin. I’ve been applying these with my finger after my priming spray, just lightly patting them into place and instantly notice a massive difference in my appearance. By the time my foundation is on, my skin tone looks even and bright and you’d never know I’d had no sleep! I’ve tried a couple colour correcting palettes in the past but in all honesty they’ve never really done much for me and I’ve never stuck to using them. The Insta colour correcting palette from Rimmel has been a massive game changer for me these past two weeks and I now couldn’t see myself applying my makeup without it – or at least without the beautiful peachy-orange shade for my under eyes!

Insta Contour palette

I have to admit from all of the great products in this range, I’ve been kind of disappointed with this last one. Although I’m not entirely sure why Rimmel have included three shades of Insta contour palettes in a release that already includes some pretty fab contour sticks, I was up for giving them a go and sadly just didn’t get on with them. Unlike the contour sticks which are really easy to apply and use, the palettes just don’t quite have the same magic appeal for me. They’re really creamy and gorgeous, but applying them with a finger or beauty blender just doesn’t have the same appeal as the contour sticks and the colouring just isn’t quite the same. To get any kind of pay off with these I had to use the darkest shade and with a pale complexion like I do, this doesn’t really seem to give much hope with gals of a more tanned nature or darker skin. The concealing shades are a bit off too as they’re just far too dark in my opinion and don’t work to brighten the under eye area or cover blemishes like they should. I’m quite disappointed with this release as I feel like they could be so much better, but with the contour sticks included in this range, I’m not too down in the dumps. Unfortunately for me these wouldn’t be something I recommend.

The #Insta selfie range overall has been one of my favourite launches from Rimmel this year so far and with so many products included to give you that ‘perfect’ selfie look you can’t really go wrong. There are so many amazing products to choose from (disregarding the contour palettes) and for a quick makeup base, you really don’t need much else bar a slick of foundation. I’ve been loving using these products on the daily recently and I can tell they’ll be some of my faves for some time to come – as I mentioned before, I doubt I’ll have much time to sit and play with makeup once bubba is here and  these products are now at the forefront of my mind for those slightly more rushed days.

Have you tried anything from the #Insta range / will you be picking anything up? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments.

When it comes to collections, i never seem to be able to buy the whole thing, as there are always products that I'm into and ones that put me off in a major way. x I love the look of the contour sticks though, those are definitely going on my shopping list ASAP! x
